For 2016 we are extending the cruise by an extra day and changing the format to include photo opportunities on the Chobe River. Passengers will have 2 days on the Chobe, 2 days on the Zambezi and 2 days at the Southern Carmine Bee-eater breeding colony.
This cruise is tailor made for the enthusiastic wildlife photographer or nature enthusiast looking for a relaxed cruise through one of Africa iconic wilderness areas.
The cruise will be hosted by Rod and Linda, the owners of the houseboat. Rod is an accomplished wildlife photographer, who knows the Chobe intimately, and will be making his seventh visit to the Carmine breeding colony. They will be on hand to help with all facets of making the most of your experience.
Passengers will spend 2 days on the Chobe River and have chance to photo Rock Pratincoles in the Mambova Rapids, plus the rich and varied wildlife on the banks of the Chobe within the National Park. then a 100 kilometre cruise up the Zambezi with large colonies of water birds along the way. At the end an afternoon and full day at the Carmine breeding colony and other attractions in the area.
The Zambezi Voyager will be taking along their new tailor photo boats for the convenience of all the passengers.
Passengers will have use of both our ne 4 seater photo boats
The itinerary for 2016 will be:
14th October 2016: Collection from Kasane immigration jetty at 10.00, taken to Kasika to board the Zambezi Voyager-lunch and briefing and afternoon photo excursion on the Chobe River. Chance to film Rock Pratincole.
15th October: Photo excursions in morning and afternoon on the Chobe River, the houseboat will cruise through the Kasai Channel in mid afternoon to moor at our maintenance shed on the Zambezi. Guests will catch up with the houseboat.
16th October : Houseboat will depart pre dawn for the overnight mooring at Golden Pond. There will be ample opportunity to photograph large concentrations of water birds while cruising up the Zambezi. Highlights are large African Skimmer colonies, African Marsh Harrier and African Fish Eagle.
17th October: Early start, with photo opportunities on the way for arrival at our mooring at Kalizo by mid afternoon. Afternoon photo shoot at the Carmine colony.
18th October: Full day filming at the colony, and in and around Kalizo.
19th October: Early morning departure for river transfer to Kasane on our ten seater boat, photo opportunities on the way with river bank picnic and bar box on board. Arrival Kasane 12.00
19th October: 2nd group will depart from Kasane immigration at 12.30 for transfer upriver to Kalizo, arriving late afternoon.
20th October: Full day filming at the colony, and in and around Kalizo
21st October: Early morning photography, while houseboat departs for Golden Pond, passengers will have the opportunity to photograph while travelling down river and catch up with the houseboat. Overnight at Golden Pond.
22nd October: Early morning photography at Skimmer colonies, and cruising down the Zambezi to arrive at our mooring at Kasika late afternoon.
23rd October: Photo excursions in morning and afternoon on the Chobe River.
24th October: Early morning photo excursion and the drop off at Kasane Immigration at 11.00
Bookings made, with deposits paid in 2015 will pay at our 2015 rate for the 5 nights of R24750.00 fully inclusive of board and lodging, photo excursions, conservancy fees, photographic guide, refreshments and alcohol. Staff gratuities and ground transfers excluded.
Bookings made in 2016, will cost R26200.00 for the 5 nights fully inclusive as per above
As with all wildlife, and particularly bird photography, a long lens is critical for success. We will be able to supply 400mm and 500mm lenses as well as semi-professional bodies at very reasonable rates for those who don’t have the required equipment.
